In the News…

Representative Hank Johnson of Georgia is heading efforts among eight members of the House of Representatives to request that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas recuse himself from any participation in the case involving former President Donald Trump. The representatives claim that the judiciary’s code of conduct said such action would be appropriate because of comments made by Thomas’ wife Virginia.

Former President Trump is the subject of criminal charges over his challenges to the 2020 election results being brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith.

“If you want to show the American people that the Supreme Court’s recent Code of Conduct is worth more than the paper it is written on, you must do the honorable thing and recuse yourself from any decisions in the case of United States v. Trump,” Congressman Johnson wrote. He said the code requires that justices should recuse themselves in legal matters if a spouse has an “interest that could be substantially affected by the outcome of the proceeding” or could “likely be a material witness in the proceeding.”
